Kate Pearse

Living in West Cornwall, in the UK, one of the most beautiful, rugged and remote coastal regions in the world informs and inspires my lifestyle and my work.  My family and I are passionate about getting out and exploring the coast and countryside of Cornwall as often as possible, and promoting the protection of the environment.  This is reflected in my workshop practice and sterling silver jewellery which incorporates recycled and found objects and materials.

I trained in three dimensional design, (3D Design - metal working, jewellery and furniture design) at the University of Wales. I specialised principally in large scale metalwork, (coming as I do from a long line of Cornish blacksmiths) designing and making metal furniture, garden pieces and body sculpture.   When I worked as a blacksmith journeyman (woman) myself, I worked on large scale steel structures including public sculptures, large gates for historic properties and metal furniture for private clients.

My traditional silversmithing skills have been developed through a range of courses, experimental workshop practice and sharing ideas with other craftspeople.
